Lettuce

Lettuce liveLettuce is a renowned American funk band that originated in 1992 in Boston, Massachusetts. The group was formed by a group of talented musicians who met while attending a summer program at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. The founding members included guitarist Eric Krasno, keyboardist Neal Evans, drummer Adam Deitch, bassist Erick “Jesus” Coomes, saxophonist Ryan Zoidis, and trumpet player Eric Bloom, who were all deeply influenced by the classic funk sounds of artists like James Brown, Herbie Hancock, and Earth, Wind & Fire. They bonded over their mutual love for funk music and decided to form a band that would honor the genre’s rich history while bringing their unique energy and creativity to the stage.

The name “Lettuce” comes from a time when the young musicians would ask various club owners, “Let us play?” The band’s early days saw them busking and jamming wherever they could, gaining a reputation for their tight grooves, infectious rhythms, and electrifying live performances. They released their debut album, Outta Here, in 2002, which showcased their raw talent and tight musicianship.

Lettuce is known for its dynamic fusion of funk, soul, jazz, hip-hop, and psychedelic music, creating a sound that is both timeless and contemporary. Over the years, they have released several acclaimed albums, including Rage! (2008), Fly (2012), Crush (2015), and Elevate (2019). Their albums consistently chart on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and their live performances are celebrated for their improvisational prowess and high-energy delivery.

The band has toured extensively, both in the United States and internationally, earning a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim. Lettuce’s commitment to musical excellence, infectious grooves, and a deep understanding of the roots of funk have solidified their place as one of the leading funk bands of their generation.
