Goose

Goose is an American indie jam band known for their eclectic sound that blends elements of rock, funk, folk, and electronic music. Formed in 2014 in Norwalk, Connecticut, the band consists of Rick Mitarotonda (guitar, vocals), Peter Anspach (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Trevor Weekz (bass), Ben Atkind (drums), and Jeff Arevalo (percussion, vocals). Goose has gained a dedicated following for their energetic live performances, characterized by extended improvisational jams and a dynamic interplay between band members.

The band’s roots trace back to Mitarotonda and Atkind, who played music together in high school. Goose initially began as a side project but gradually evolved into a full-time band with the addition of other members. The name “Goose” was chosen somewhat whimsically, reflecting the group’s laid-back and fun-loving attitude.

Goose released their debut album, “Moon Cabin,” in 2016, showcasing their early sound, which combined jam-band influences with folk and indie-rock sensibilities. Over the years, their sound has evolved, incorporating more electronic elements and funk grooves, which has resonated with a broad audience, especially within the live music scene.

The band’s popularity surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, as they began streaming performances from their home studio, reaching a wider audience online. This period of virtual concerts helped solidify their reputation as a must-see live act. Goose’s second album, “Shenanigans Nite Club,” released in 2021, further highlighted their growth as songwriters and musicians, showcasing a mix of catchy melodies, complex arrangements, and exploratory jams.

Goose’s live performances have become legendary, often featuring extended improvisational sections and a mix of original songs and covers. They are known for their tight musicianship, chemistry, and ability to create a unique experience at each show, making them a standout in the contemporary jam-band scene.
